Description
Thio-Wipe 2% sodium thiosulfate cleanroom wipe with water for injection can be used in conjunction with our Hypo-Chlor 5.25% sterile bleach wipe as step #2 for compliance with USP 800 hazardous drug handling. This sodium thiosulfate wipe addresses the sterile compounding pharmacies needs by neutralizing the sodium hypochlorite solution and decontaminating the surface of previously deactivated hazardous drugs.
Deactivation and decontamination are two different processes and USP<800> states that, “Chemical deactivation of a hazardous substance is preferred, but no single process has been found to deactivate all currently available HD’s.” For this reason, we suggest Veltek’s 5.25% HYPO-CHLOR liquid or wipe (sodium hypochlorite) for deactivation as there is third-party research to support its ability to do such. We suggest following the 5.25% HYPO-CHLOR with Veltek’s THIO-WIPE (2% sodium thiosulfate w/surfactant) or DECON-CLEAN to remove all residues (decontaminate) and neutralize the 5.25% HYPO-CHLOR on your surface. The last step is using a sterile 70% IPA cleanroom wipe, to disinfect the surface. The drugs that are not deactivated will be decontaminated with this process. By using this process, you can achieve the preferred method stated in USP800 when possible.
